There are lots of hot marketing terms like Click Funnels, A/B Split Testing, Retargeting, etc. These are all great and have their place if you have lots of extra time and money, but to me, there are 4 key strategies all small businesses should be focusing on. So let’s dive into the best ways to market a small business.

What are the best ways to market a small business?

Market a Small Business

The first is Blogging for SEO (Search Engine Optimization) and promote on your social channels. By creating a regular blog post on your website with the intent of answering questions your customers may have, will have a huge impact on improving your SEO marketing. Plus, you can you these blogs as the FAQ section of your website. If you are not sure what questions your customers may have, you need to ask and request feedback from their experience with your business.

Secondly, live video is huge when it comes to marketing your small business. It may be uncomfortable at first, but you need to accept where you are and own it! The best way to be successful with live videos is to be prepared. Have an outline, not a script, so you can talk authentically on a topic and stay on track. Slow down because there is a delay from when you are speaking to when your audience hears you. So if you ask a question or are wanting interaction with your fans, you need to slow down or you will miss that wonderful opportunity to interact with your customers. Facebook or Instagram lives do not need to be long, but talking slower and smiling goes a long way with your success in the video. As soon as you complete your live video, download it so you can post it to YouTube. This is another huge search engine for you to get your information out so people find out about what your business is all about.

A huge tool we have is with social media posts. Remember this is all about SOCIAL engagement, not pushing your products and marketing. These posts must be more than just your sales and product offerings, as it needs to be all about what your customer needs or wants to hear about. Show a person’s face with your product or have people give testimonials. Encourage your fans to be active and post with polls, questions or contests. A great way to grow your fan base is to get creative in finding a way that would benefit people in sharing your business post to their personal pages. Further, post where your customers are located, for example, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube or LinkedIn.

Finally, having a word of mouth strategy can be another great way to market your small business. We can create a lot of business from our circle of influence, so do not take this for granted. A great way to get started is to ask for reviews, find out how people found out about your business and follow up with customers shortly after they purchase, but have a plan for what to do with that information when you receive it. Thank you notes go a long way and encourage them to keep talking about your business with others, basically, have a call to action for them. A great book I would recommend that can give you some insight is ‘Talk Triggers’ by Jay Baer and Daniel Lemin. It helps give you a way to talk about your business. Remember we all can influence, so learn to talk about your business to meet your customer’s needs.
